How to find and edit a user record

Finding a user record

There are two ways to find user records:

  • If you have a lot of editors on your site, you might find it useful to search on part of a name
  • Enter a name in the search field and use the Filter button
  • This returns search results of all matching records
  • Use the Reset button to clear the search results and return to the full list of users
  • If you only have a few editors on your site, scroll down the full list to find the record you want to edit

Using the Edit button

  • The Edit button is located on the right of a user record in the People list
  • Use the Edit button:
    • to change a user's role
    • to cancel their account
  • You would have to cancel an account when the user was no longer working on your site

Edit using the Actions menu

  • The menu contains additional actions to that of the Edit User page
  • Select the check-box next to the user's name in the People list
  • This activates a separate drop-down menu of actions at the bottom of the screen
  • Expand the menu to see actions for:
    • changing a user's role
    • cancelling an account
    • blocking the selected user
    • unblocking the selected user
  • You might find blocking is useful if you wanted to temporarily suspend somebody's access to the site. For example, when they were on extended leave or while you investigated some kind of information security issue
  • Please note the Update URL alias option is likely to be removed. This relates to the alias attached to the edit user page
  • This alias is automatically generated when you add a new user and it wouldn't be useful to edit it
