Flexibility within a framework
All Fresco websites are built on the same platform and use the same component library. Site types are grouped to reflect University content strategy, with some sites sitting closer to the core University brand, while others are given more room to vary where appropriate.
Fresco offers a three-tier model, with options for Oxford Identity sites, Branded sites, and Specialist sites, to provide a flexible, scalable approach to building websites. It creates strong common ground where consistency matters, while allowing more tailored presentation where distinct needs add real value. The result is a more coherent Oxford experience without losing the individuality different parts of the University need.
Each category comes with a different level of design flexibility:
Oxford Identity
e.g. Departments, Divisions, Research units
Oxford identity sites are designed for departments and divisions that need a clear connection to the Oxford University brand, alongside their own individual colour. They have a clean, consistent look that helps people find their way around the site easily and gives the whole University a more joined-up feel. This tier balances local identity with the recognition of the Oxford name in a way that feels clear and authoritative.

Branded websites provide a distinctive space for teams that need a more tailored visual identity. They support a curated set of design choices, including colour choices and a selection of fonts, while still sitting comfortably within the wider Oxford digital family. Specialist sites are for museums, libraries and similar teams with more specialised content needs.
